One hundred Tesla Model Ys will be deployed by Uber in Japan. The cars will operate in 23 districts of Tokyo. The first batch of Model Y will be deployed Q4 this year, with a full rollout in 2024.
Hinomaru Kotsu and Tesla Motors Japan will introduce Tesla Model Y electric vehicles to the Uber Japan Uber Premium taxi service. Tthe electric car is highly regarded for its range, driving performance, quietness, and premium interior and exterior. As part of the collaboration, Uber will deploy 100 vehicles for premium rides in 23 districts of Tokyo.
The deployment of Tesla vehicles to the online dispatch service will be the Texas-based manufacturer's first attempt at introducing electric vehicles to the taxi and car rental industry in Japan. The first batch of 30 Model Ys will be deployed as early as November. The electric vehicles will be deployed at three Hinomaru Kotsu offices in the Setagaya, Edogawa, and Adachi areas. After that, the vehicles will be deployed at subsidiaries of the Hinomaru Motors group, and by the end of 2024, the total number of vehicles will be increased to 100.
All Model Y vehicles will be used exclusively for Uber Premium. A special menu will be prepared on the car model selection screen in the Uber app, and users will be able to select Model Y and book a ride. From November, Hinomaru Kotsu plans to provide Tesla chargers at its offices in the Adachi and Setagaya areas.
