In a recent Twitter interaction, Elon Musk mused about the prospect of adding new games to the Tesla Arcade, namely the popular sandbox game Minecraft and an AR game that is quite similar to Pokemon GO. Musk’s recent comments bode well for electric car owners, and it is a step towards the eventual “gamification” of the Tesla ownership experience.

Musk’s recent tweets suggested a multiplayer version of Minecraft that could be played inside a Tesla, or an augmented reality game for driving that’s similar to Pokemon GO. In later interactions with EA product manager Bret Hoffman, Musk clarified that he would like to have online Minecraft multiplayer games in Tesla Arcade.

“Anyone think they can get a good multiplayer Minecraft working on Teslas? Or maybe create a game that interacts virtually with reality like Pokémon Go while driving safely? Like a complex version of Pac-man or Mario Kart?” Musk tweeted.

Musk has mentioned Minecraft as a possible game for Tesla Arcade in the past. While the sandbox title has not been rolled out to Tesla Arcade yet, there is little doubt that the game will add a whole new level of entertainment for the company’s electric cars. Minecraft will likely make Teslas even more family-friendly as well, considering how popular the title is with younger gamers.

But beyond Minecraft, an AR game like Pokemon GO would likely make Tesla Arcade even more game-changing. Augmented Reality games would work very well with Tesla’s electric cars, considering that it may incentivize owners to drive their vehicles more. This gives the games an additional fun factor while further training the company’s neural networks.

Tesla’s neural networks are trained primarily using real-world driving data, which means that it needs as much input from the company’s fleet as possible. This is incredibly pertinent for the development of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving suite, which relies on tons of actual input from real drivers on the road. FSD development can benefit from more drivers driving their vehicles on the road, and AR games may be a good way to foster that.

Elon Musk has stated in the past that Teslas are not just vehicles; they are also instruments of fun. This has been proven true over the years, as the company’s vehicles are not only capable of powerful performance; they are also equipped with tons of fun features like Easter Eggs, games, and a suite of streaming apps. Together, these make Tesla’s electric cars as the most enjoyable vehicles on the road, full stop.
