Tesla Model 3 and Model X are included in Euro NCAP's Best Of The Best In Class Cars of 2019

The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) is the European committee for conducting independent car crash tests with an assessment of active safety and passive safety. An active safety assessment has been underway since 2009.

Today Euro NCAP published its Best in Class for 2019. Fifty-five cars were assessed (a list of all tested cars can be found at the bottom of the article) among which forty-one achieved the top accolade. This makes 2019 one of the most impressive years on record since Euro NCAP started to evaluate consumer safety of cars on the European market.

Of all the cars tested, Euro NCAP compiled a list of Best of the Best of 2019.

Two Tesla cars were awarded, which is an incredibly strong result.

Tesla are deeply committed to safety, which is why they engineered they cars to be the safest car ever built. In the U.S., Model 3 and Model X has already earned an overall 5-star rating from NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), including earning 5-stars in every category and sub-category, and scoring the lowest probability of injury of any car ever evaluated by the U.S. New Car Assessment Program.

Model 3 has been awarded a 5-star rating from the Euro NCAP. The Programme’s four categories – each of which Model 3 earned 5-stars in – evaluate a car’s ability to protect adults, children, vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians, as well as its safety assistance features. In this latter “Safety Assist” category, which evaluates a car’s active safety features including its ability to avoid accidents, mitigate injuries and prevent drivers from unintentionally drifting out of their lane, Model 3 earned the highest score that Euro NCAP has awarded to date under their 2018/2019 testing protocols.

Model X earned the highest overall rating to date in the 2018/2019 protocol for the Large Off-Road class. It earned the exact same overall score as Model 3 – showing that Tesla's large SUV is just as safe as its smallest and most affordable sedan. Model X achieved the exact same Safety Assist score that Model 3 got, which is the highest ever recorded Safety Assist score under Euro NCAP’s current and most stringent protocol to date.

Model X achieved a near-perfect score in the Adult Occupant Protection category, scoring a full 8 out of 8 points on the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier test, and 16 out of 16 possible points on the Side Impact tests.

Tesla’s engineers developed each active safety feature evaluated by Euro NCAP by leveraging the real-world data collected from the sensor suite of every Tesla vehicle made since October 2016, coupled with data from billions of inputs from actual drivers to help to understand how drivers behave in dynamic scenarios. This data gives to Tesla team a more precise understanding of the environment around their cars and the different ways that accidents happen, allowing them to more accurately predict when an accident is likely to occur and deploy automated technology to mitigate or avoid it.

The constant painstaking work of Tesla has amazing results, because the safety of car passengers and other road users is a priority. It is Tesla who cares about this safety and is constantly developing and improving various systems that prevent the occurrence of crash, as such.
