Hertz, which recently ordered 100,000 Tesla Model 3s, will deliver 50,000 of these to Uber by 2023. Drivers of the electric car rental group will begin offering electric rental services in the United States as early as next week.

Hertz Global Holdings Inc. has placed an order for 100,000 Tesla Model 3s as a step towards its ambitious plan to electrify its rental car fleet. It will be the largest EV purchase known to date and is a great example for other companies in the fight to reduce CO2 emissions from combustion engine vehicles.

The car rental company announced today that it will provide 50,000 of the 100,000 Teslas cars ordered to Uber. Uber drivers will begin offering services with Tesla rental vehicles starting November 1, initially in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Washington. The broader nationwide deployment will begin later.

Bloomberg reported that Tesla car rentals for Uber drivers will start at $334 per week, then drop to $299 as the program launches, and drivers must complete at least 150 trips and be rated at least 4.7 stars.

"Electric vehicles are now mainstream, and we've only just begun to see rising global demand and interest," said Hertz interim CEO Mark Fields.
