A New York Assemblyman Sean Ryan has asked Tesla CEO Elon Musk to make ventilators at Tesla factory in Buffalo. 

BNNBloomberg reported that Ryan wrote a letter to Musk today asking him to help the state deal with an increasing outbreak of coronavirus, noting that New York is the most affected state in the country, with over 20,000 cases.

“It makes sense that increased ventilator production would happen here to ensure we can meet the growing demand of our health-care system.”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Tuesday that the number of new coronavirus infections is doubling every three days, despite all the steps the state has taken to slow the spread. According to him, the state purchased 7,000 ventilators and needs another 30 thousand.

On March 18, Musk announced his intention to begin production of ventilators. Already on March 19, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio turned to him, asking for help. Being a responsive person, CEO Tesla said his team would contact the Mayor's team.

On March 21, Musk held a long engineering discussion with Medtronic, apparently trying to figure out the manufacturing process of ventilators. March 22, Tesla, Ford and GM received permission from the US authorities to produce the necessary medical equipment. This meant that Tesla factories could now produce ventilators.

That is why Ryan asked for help from a company that has manufacturing facilities in Buffalo, near New York. It seems that in these difficult times, the only ones who can really help provide the hospitals with equipment are some companies, such as Tesla, who have experience in creating sophisticated HVAC systems.

Despite the fact that ventilators cannot be produced instantly, Musk does not waste time in vain. Using his connections and supply chains, he managed to buy 1255 ventilators in China, which were delivered to the United States yesterday. It should be noted that Tesla does this for free.
