Tesla China may be ramping its Autopilot team to improve the company's local Full Self-Driving rollout. Tesla China's VP, Grace Tao talked about the job opportunities open to fresh graduates in a live broadcast by local media outlet CCTV News. She specifically mentioned Tesla China's Autopilot team during her time on air.

CCTV News held a five-hour-long live broadcast for fresh graduates in China. "Today, CCTV News Joined @Boss direct employment to open a 'hardcore' recruitment live broacast mode," posted the local news outlet on Weibo

The live broadcast featured five major industries and 30+ enterprises looking to fill over 70,000 job positions. One of the companies featured in the live broadcast was Tesla China, represented by Grace Tao. She predicted that applicants would probably gravitate towards positions for Tesla China's Autopilot team.

Tao's remark hinted that Tesla could be developing an AI Autopilot team for the Chinese market. The move makes sense since road rules and regulations are different in China. The way drivers navigate roads in China would be different as well. Having a dedicated AI Autopilot team for the Chinese market would help FSD adapt to the differences between driving in the US and driving in China.

According to Tesla's Careers page, some Autopilot-related positions the company is looking to fill include a product support engineer, data engineer, Autopilot & navigation maps engineer, and a mechanical engineer for Autopilot hardware.

Tesla's product support engineer for Shanghai will have to balance a role between Autopilot's development and production teams in China. Tesla listed two separate objectives for the position: 1) Diagnostic related objectives and 2) Systems related objectives.

Tesla China's data engineer will also be located in Shanghai. The position was described as follows: "Tesla Motors is seeking a Data Engineer. This person will design, develop, maintain and support our Enterprise Data Warehouse & BI platform within Tesla using various data & BI tools, this position offers unique opportunity to make significant impact to the entire organization in developing data tools and driving data driven culture."

There are two slots open for Autopilot & Navigation Maps engineer on the company's Careers page. One of the positions was for Beijing and the other was for Shanghai. "Tesla is a leader in Autopilot technology and we’re building the world's best in-car navigation experience. These two fields overlap in the role of Maps Engineer. We're looking for motivated software engineers that are up to the challenge."

"You will implement next-generation algorithms on top of large amounts of data from the Tesla fleet. This is a cornerstone on which Navigate on Autopilot and Smart Summon are implemented. In addition, the same data will drive more efficient routing and better turn-by-turn navigation for customers," said the description for the roles.

Lastly, there was a position for mechanical engineer for Autopilot hardware based in Shanghai. The employee that fills this position will work closely with the US team.

"Tesla is seeking a mechanical engineer with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in designing or manufacturing high-volume electronics. This engineer will be the interface between Tesla Shanghai factory and US design teams and be responsible for solving mechanical and manufacturing issues related to car computer, camera, radar and other sensors in Tesla Shanghai factory. The engineer will also participant engineering design of the above components in new vehicles and provide engineering guidance and support to our key suppliers in the region," said the description for mechanical engineer.
