Tesla's New Cybertruck Gigafactory Could Be Announced As Early As Next Month

Tesla's new Cybertruck Gigafactory will likely be announced sometime next month. The update was related by CEO Elon Musk during the recently-held Q1 Earnings Call as he was discussing the company's upcoming initiatives.

Elon Musk first suggested the idea of another US-based Tesla Gigafactory on Twitter. The CEO initially tested the waters last February by asking his followers on Twitter about the idea of a Giga Texas. The response was overwhelmingly positive, though Musk later opened the discussion for other states to potentially host the upcoming Gigafactory as well.

The CEO would later note that the upcoming facility, which will be used to manufacture the Cybertruck, will be located somewhere in Central USA. Since then, multiple cities have extended their invitations to Tesla and its upcoming Cybertruck Gigafactory, such as Wichita. Tulsa, Oklahoma even made a dedicated meme website pitching itself as a potential site for the Cybertruck Gigafactory.

If Elon Musk's recent update in the Q1 2020 Earnings Call is any indication, it appears that Tesla has decided on a site for its next Gigafactory. According to Musk, a formal announcement would be held as early as next month, or at least within the next three months. The CEO did not specify if the facility will be intended for the Cybertruck, though his past tweets certainly suggest that the upcoming facility will be used for the all-electric pickup.

"I think we will announce the next Giga possibly as soon as a month. We may not -- as soon as next month. This is not a prediction, just saying. That's -- that could happen. It will certainly be within three months and possibly one month. And that would be in the US. So as for how many will be in five years, I'm not -- I don't know right now what that number would be. I guess, several more than there are today. But I'm not sure, what exactly it would be in five years, but some number more than today," Musk said.

The upcoming Cybertruck Gigafactory will likely be Tesla's most unique yet, considering that the all-electric pickup will be manufactured in a much different manner compared to the company's other vehicles. Tesla's Cybertruck will not be using a stamping machine, nor will it need a paint shop due to its stainless steel XY design. It will then be exciting to see how optimized Tesla can make the Cybertruck Gigafactory.
