Tesla officially opened production in Canada. The new facility focuses on production machines for battery production and R&D in this field. The new manufacturing facility expands Tesla's presence in the country, highlighting the importance of Canada in the manufacturer's global plans.

"Tesla comes to the town of Markham in Canada for Manufacturing," Mayor Frank Scarpitti shared on his Instagram. In the picture, in his post it was written:

"I am delighted to share that Tesla Canada is joining our already robust automotive and technology ecosystem by locating a manufacturing facility in the City of Markham. The facility will be the first branded Tesla Canada manufacturing facility in Canada and will produce state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment to be used at the Gigafactories located around the world in the production of batteries."

Apart from this post, Tesla also released a video that describes how the new facility works. The main direction is the production of machines that will produce batteries in the company's factories around the world. In addition, the company will carry out R&D, related to battery production. The facility will play a very important role in the development of the company, as Tesla's efforts are now aimed at establishing mass production of 4680 battery cells.

A large number of highly qualified battery specialists are concentrated in Canada. So in 2019, Tesla acquired Hibar Systems Ltd. in Richmond Hill, Ontario, which specializes in battery manufacturing. In addition, Tesla is in collaboration with Jeff Dahn's the Canadian lab at Dalhousie University. As of today, the company has over 1,200 employees in Canada.
