Tesla's popularity in South Korea, as in many parts of the world, continues to grow—and the party is probably just getting started. After achieving impressive success in Model 3 sales, the company launched Model Y sales in the country.

On February 12, 2021, Tesla opened the Model Y order configurator in South Korea. The estimated delivery time for Standard Range is the second half of 2021. Delivery terms for Long Range and Performance have not yet been specified.

Cost of Model Y before receiving incentives:

  • Standard Range ₩59,990,000 (about $54,345)
  • Long Range ₩69,990,000 (about $63,400)
  • Performance ₩79,990,000 (about $72,460)

In 2021, South Korea will give the full amount of government subsidies to electric cars that are priced below ₩60 million. This means that the Model Y Standard Range is suitable for receiving incentives, which will make it even more popular in the country's market.

At the moment, Tesla is offering for order only the five-seater model Y. The seven-seater version will be available for ordering in South Korea later. Due to the growing popularity of Tesla cars in the country, the company intends to increase its presence. By the end of this year, 27 new Superchargers will be added, nearly doubling the amount available now. Also, to the already existing four service centers, four more will be added throughout the country.

According to data from the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association and automakers, Tesla accounted for 25 percent of all-electric vehicle sales in South Korea in 2020. The data also showed that sales of imported electric vehicles reached 15,183 units last year, of which Tesla accounted for 77.9 percent.
