Tesla plans to expand into Malaysia, says the country's Minister of International Trade and Industry. According to the statement, the manufacturer plans to establish a head office, experience and service centers, and its own network of Superchargers.

Tesla continues to expand and has plans to invest in Malaysia. The strength of the electrical and electronic (E&E) sector in the country prompted the company to choose Malaysia, Minister of International Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said, according to The Edge Markets. These sectors, together with the semiconductor sector, are critical components for electric vehicles.

Asked about Tesla's proposed investment size, Tengku Zafrul said it has not yet been finalized. “This is a private investment and we will wait,” he told reporters Wednesday on the sidelines of Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd’s automation and digital forum series, entitled ‘Driving Business Thru Digitalization and Automation-The Journey Together.’

According to the minister, initially, Tesla plans to establish a head office in Malaysia, experience centers for car sales, and service centers for their maintenance. In addition, a Supercharger Network will be created. All this is necessary. Currently, the nearest official Tesla service center is in Singapore, and Greentech leasing program owners ship their vehicles back to Hong Kong if a major overhaul is needed.
