SpaceX's Starbase launch site is located at Boca Chica Beach near the city of Brownsville. The South Texas region shares culture with the bordering city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Since the year 1937, the bordering cities celebrate their friendship with an annual ‘Charro Days Fiesta’. The celebration highlights their shared heritage with multiple festive events, including annual parades. The celebrations are scheduled to take place from February 19th through 27th.

The Charro Days Fiesta Parade takes place down Elizabeth St. through Historic Downtown Brownsville, TX. Everyone dresses in folkloric Mexican attire and beautiful floats cruise down the street. Students from the Rio Grande Valley participate at the parade, as well as local organizations and businesses. There is an illuminated nighttime parade and a daytime parade scheduled for February 25 and February 26, respectively. The businesses that participate help sponsor the festivities. Brownsville officials and Mr. Amigo Association recently shared that SpaceX is one of the sponsors of the 2022 event.

Last year, SpaceX founder & Tesla CEO Elon Musk pledged to donate $20 Million for Cameron County schools and $10 Million for Brownsville downtown revitalization. The Musk Foundation already donated a portion of that amount to local schools and the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation.

On February 8, Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) students and city representatives visited SpaceX’s Starbase facility to create a video to invite Musk to the Charro Days Fiesta parade. Brownsville District 2 Commissioner Jessica Tetreau and BISD Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez organized the gathering. "Musk has donated [...] to BISD, we are very pleased that he has given back to us and we would like for him to also join us on our festivities here in Brownsville, especially Charro Days," said Gutiérrez.

The Stell Middle School students dressed in folkloric attire and danced in front of the rocket factory's giant STARBASE sign. They also made signs to show their appreciation for SpaceX teams. –“I am very grateful for the opportunities brought on to my students by SpaceX and Elon Musk’s contributions to BISD. Having something this large right in our backyard makes me realize all my students futures are going to be bright!” said dance teacher Miss Joleen. The teenage students were very excited to see the shiny Starships along the road and many said they would like to travel to Mars one day. A SpaceX employee even walked up to the students and said that next time they visit he would like to organize a tour of the rocket-ship factory, and gave them Starship-theme stickers. Commissioner Tetreau told TESMANIAN in a video interview that she is grateful for all that Musk has done for the community and also hopes he is able to attend the Charro Days celebrations. Tesmanian.com correspondent Evelyn J. Arevalo helped the students create the invitation video to send it to Elon Musk via Twitter and also interviewed Tetreau. - The students dance video, interview, and more photos are linked below.

Employees from the local Tesla dealership brought some cars to show the students, who were fascinated by the electric vehicle's technology.
