Twitter has begun its transformation and is on its way to becoming the app for everything. Elon Musk forms a team to create Twitter 2.0, putting “A Fork in the Road” for employees to make their choice.
Obviously, the success of any business depends on how selfless those who implement it are. Even the best business idea can be doomed for failure if employees are irresponsible and do their work dishonestly and poorly. All of Elon Musk's companies basically have employees who are united by a common idea: they want the companies to become successful. This is what ensures their dedicated work, especially when the company is in dire need of it.
For example, everyone knows about Tesla's hardcore work at the end of each quarter. Teams at the factory, logistics, and delivery centers work around the clock to produce and deliver as many vehicles as possible. Almost every employee believes that the success of the company depends on how well they do their job, and they are right. This is what makes Tesla prosperous and how it has become a marvel of the automotive industry and continues to disrupt the entire industry.
Musk is well aware of the importance of having employees committed to the company, which is why he always strives to hire people who support the missions of his companies. Twitter, which he bought at the end of October, is no exception. The corporate culture among platform employees is unhealthy, to say the least. Ever since it was revealed in the spring that Musk intended to buy Twitter, employees have continued to worry about keeping all the perks, like an extra day off every week, the ability to work from home, free lunches, etc. They even made a list of their demands to Musk about how he should treat them, beginning each paragraph with “we demand.”
It is obvious that a successful company will be built on dedicated employees, and not on those that are only demanding of their employers. So, Musk told the team that each of them must make their own choice: whether they are ready to work with dedication or not. That choice was presented to them in an internal email reviewed by CNBC entitled A Fork in the Road.
Musk explained that he wants to make Twitter successful in this highly competitive world, so to build a “breakthrough Twitter 2.0,” it needs to be “extremely hardcore.” This means that the employees of the company will have to be dedicated and work hard. He said that Twitter will be more focused on engineers and those who write great code will make up the majority of the team and have the most impact. He also asked employees to make a choice whether they are ready to do extremely hardcore work to create Twitter 2.0, or not. Musk left a link and those who want to be part of the new team must follow it before November 17, 5:00 pm ET. Obviously, those who do not follow the link are those who did not want to become part of the new team and will receive three months of severance. Regardless of the choice, Musk thanked everyone for their efforts to make Twitter a success.

Going forward, to build a breakthrough Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, we will need to be extremely hardcore. This will mean working long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.
Twitter will also be much more engineering-driven. Design and product management will still be very important and report to me, but those writing great code will constitute the majority of our team and have the greatest sway.
At its heart, Twitter is a software and servers company, so l think this makes sense.
