Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is pleased that the platform will change its model, as the way it was, it “has been owned by Wall Street and the ad model.” At the same time, he said that Elon Musk is the “singular solution I trust” to run Twitter.
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey approves of Elon Musk's deal to buy the social network. Reacting to news of the takeover deal, he posted a link to the Radiohead song “Everything's In Its Place.” This was the start of his series of tweets about his take on things.
Dorsey said his biggest regret was the way Twitter operated as a company and was unhappy with the model, so he welcomed the change. “It has been owned by Wall Street and the ad model. Taking it back from Wall Street is the correct first step,” he wrote.
The entrepreneur clarified that he would not want anyone to own Twitter at all and sees the social network as something that would be “a public good at a protocol level, not a company.” However, Twitter is a company with problems and it is Elon Musk who “is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.”
The idea and service is all that matters to me, and I will do whatever it takes to protect both. Twitter as a company has always been my sole issue and my biggest regret. It has been owned by Wall Street and the ad model. Taking it back from Wall Street is the correct first step.— jack⚡️ (@jack) April 26, 2022
Dorsey explained that he knows Musk's goal is to create a platform that is “maximally trusted and broadly inclusive.” “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” said Mr. Musk. “I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”
