IDRA GROUP is about to introduce a 9,000-ton Giga Press for high-pressure die-cast aluminum. Elon Musk has confirmed that the Tesla Cybertruck, the start of production of which is scheduled for 2023, will be produced with this machine.

IDRA GROUP is Tesla's supplier and produces key manufacturing machines for the Texas-based company. The Giga Press they made revolutionized the production of cars, which provided Tesla with even greater superiority over legacy competitors. At the moment, 6,000-ton Giga Presses installed at all of the company's manufacturing facilities around the world are making single-piece ends for Model Y, but Giga Texas will soon get a new machine with absolutely impressive clamping force.

A few weeks ago, IDRA started advertising a new, 9,000-tonne-force Giga Press. While no details have been released, the description of its features and the colors of its parts hinted that the machine was designed for Tesla. Today, IDRA shared a video of how the Giga Press is assembled, which provoked Tesla CEO Elon Musk to reveal the main secret. He confirmed that the giant machine would be used to produce Cybertruck.

Although Musk wrote that a 9,000-ton Giga Press would be used to produce the Cybertruck body, keep in mind that he most likely meant the underbody. The bottom line is that this machine is one of a series of aluminum die casting machines. Die casting works by forcing molten metal alloy inside a reusable mold, then opening the mold to remove the finished piece after it has solidified. In addition, it is known that the exterior of the car will be made of steel.

Musk previously mentioned that the clamping force for producing the rear part of Cybertruck with Giga Press will be 8,000 tons. Apparently, the design has been improved, perhaps due to the fact that it is better suited to the stated requirements. On the other hand, there is a possibility that this Giga Press could be used to make the front end of the electric pickup.
