Tesla continues to work on expanding solar installations on the Giga Nevada rooftop, which will help the company make the plant carbon neutral. In just one year, the installation size has more than doubled.

Based on satellite images on buildingtesla.com, Tesla continues to actively install solar panels on the roof of Giga Nevada. Over the past 12 months, the company has installed several new rows of large solar panel clusters. Comparison shots for this period show that the total installation size has more than doubled in just a year, indicating a significant increase in efforts to make the factory carbon neutral.

For example, images from January 12, 2021, show that about nine rows of solar panel clusters are installed on the roof of the factory. Their exact number is difficult to see due to the quality of satellite images. Pictures were taken on January 12, 2022, showing that there are about 12 additional new rows, plus a few more incomplete rows. In comparison, from January 2020 to January 2021, only about three new rows of solar panels were installed, bringing the total to nine. Thus, in 2021, Tesla has been quite actively engaged in the installation of solar panels in order to achieve its goal as quickly as possible.

Tesla began building the Gigafactory in Nevada in June 2014. When completed, the company expects it to be the largest building in the world powered entirely by renewable energy. The solar power will support the production of batteries and other company products at the factory, where Tesla has ramped up production since November 2018 and continues to do so. In cooperation with Panasonic, the plant produces batteries for Tesla electric vehicles, as well as energy storage systems such as Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack, and tiles for Solar Roof.
