Tesla Giga Shanghai delivered 39,956 vehicles in China in April and exported 35,886 units. Around two-thirds of all cars sold were Model Ys.

Tesla sold 75,842 Chinese-made vehicles in April, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). They included 35,886 units for export, corresponding to 47.3 percent. Thus, Tesla delivered 39,956 vehicles to China in April, or 52.7 percent. April sales of the Chinese-made Model 3 and Model Y were 26,783 and 49,059 respectively, according to CPCA.

In the first half of every quarter, Giga Shanghai usually produces the bulk of the vehicles for export. Basically, the factory delivers to Europe. However, now this situation has changed a bit. Tesla's European factory, Giga Berlin, has been able to significantly ramp up production and is now able to supply a significant portion of vehicles to European countries. At present, the factory's production capacity is over 5,000 Model Ys per week. A new milestone is expected to be reached soon: 6,000 vehicles per week. It will also enable Giga Shanghai to focus more on manufacturing for the domestic market, Australia, New Zealand, and other neighboring countries.

Sales of 75,842 vehicles in April reflect an increase of 4,916 percent from 1,512 units sold in April 2022. However, this is 14.66 percent less than the 88,869 units sold in March. Last April, Tesla experienced production disruptions in China when Giga Shanghai was closed. At the end of March, Shanghai was quarantined due to COVID-19 and all factories in the city were suspended.

Retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEV) in China totaled 527,000 in April, of which 370,000 are battery electric vehicles (BEVs), according to CPCA data. Tesla's NEV market share in China was 7.58 percent in April and its BEV market share was 10.80 percent.
