Tesla Giga Shanghai delivered 76,965 vehicles in August, almost tripling the figure from July. This reflects the successful modernization work of the factory, which has significantly enhanced the installed capacity.

Tesla delivered 76,965 vehicles from its Giga Shanghai last month, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). This is in line with the assumption of Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the CPCA, who said on September 1 that the factory would deliver about 77,000 vehicles in August. The data showed that out of 76,965 vehicles, 42,463 Model 3s and Model Ys were exported. Domestically, 34,502 vehicles were delivered, gradually meeting demand.

Sales of Chinese-made Tesla vehicles in August were up 173% from 28,217 in July. This is also an increase of 74%, compared with 44,264 in August 2021. In addition, this is Tesla's second sales record since June, when the manufacturer registered 78,906 units.

Notable is the fact that Tesla was able to produce such a high number of vehicles despite the heat wave in China and forced production shutdowns at its component suppliers' factories. For example, battery manufacturer CATL's Yibin plant, which mainly supplies battery cells for Tesla Giga Shanghai, was forced to close part of its operations in mid-August due to local power cut policies.

Giga Shanghai continues to increase production, after the modernization, which took place from July to early August. According to rumors so far unconfirmed, but not refuted by the company, now the production capacity of the factory is 1.1-1.2 million units per year. Already now, Giga Shanghai produces the largest number of vehicles in a single factory per month among all automakers, and further capacity expansion will only strengthen the manufacturer in this position. Thanks to a significant expansion of production, delivery times for vehicles, so far only for Tesla customers in China, have already been reduced by several months.
