Tesla Giga Shanghai has significantly reduced the delivery time of cars in China. The reduction in waiting time, in some cases by several months, was made possible by the recent upgrade of the factory.
Tesla has reduced expected delivery times for all Giga Shanghai production models in China. This is a very rare event for the company, especially as the number of car orders continues to increase at a high rate. At the moment, the Chinese factory produces Model 3 in two versions and Model Y in three, as these models are the most popular around the world.
The current expected delivery time for the base Tesla Model 3 and Model 3 Performance is 12-16 weeks, according to updates on the manufacturer's website. Previously, the delivery time for the basic version was 14-18 weeks, and for Performance, it was 16-20 weeks. Here we can notice a very significant reduction in waiting times.
The base Model Y will now deliver in just 4-8 weeks, 1 month earlier compared to the previous 8-12 weeks. The waiting time for Model Y Long Range is 16-20 weeks, which is also four weeks earlier than the previous 20-24. The Y Performance model will be delivered in 12-16 weeks, compared to the previous 16-20.
This significant reduction in delivery times is primarily due to the fact that Giga Shanghai was upgraded in July. Both lines, for the production of Model 3 and Model Y, were closed in turn, and did not return to full capacity until August 8. According to unofficial data, the factory's installed capacity has increased from 750,000 to 1.1-1.2 million vehicles per year.
