Tesla has received 30,000 car orders in China since the recent price cut, according to local media. Traffic in stores in China's second- and third-tier cities rose sharply, with orders up 500% in some cities compared to December.

Tesla received 30,000 orders within three days of announcing price cuts for its vehicles in China, local media outlet Sina reported today (via CnEVPost) without citing sources. The Beijing News contacted its Tesla source to confirm or deny the information, who said the company would not comment on the situation.

The news of the 30,000 orders comes after it was revealed that more than 10,000 orders were placed within the first day after Tesla's price cut was announced. The information was published based on a comment from the manufacturer's mid-level executive.

On January 6, the prices on Giga Shanghai-made Model 3 and Model Y were reduced for Chinese customers, which caused a big stir. The new starting price for the base rear-wheel-drive Model 3 is RMB 229,900 (around $33,895), down RMB 36,000 from the previous RMB 265,900. This is the lowest starting price for Model 3 in China. The base rear-wheel-drive Model Y now has an updated starting price of RMB 259,900 (around $38,375), down RMB 29,000 from the previous price of RMB 288,900.

ifeng.com reported that more than 200 Tesla vehicles were ordered daily in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, for two days over the weekend. Assuming that the situation was similar in other cities, then the number of orders in the amount of 30,000 does not seem so unrealistic. In addition to the fact that customers ordered in stores, many of them could also prefer ordering through an online configurator on the Tesla website. According to the information, traffic at some Tesla stores has increased significantly, so, during peak hours, each consumer was allocated only a few minutes near the vehicle of interest.

Yicai reported their research showed that customer traffic and orders at Tesla stores in China's second- and third-tier cities rose sharply after price cuts. The publication stated that in some cities, orders increased by 500% compared to December.

Tesla has also responded to increased demand. Now, the delivery time for the base Model Y and the Long Range version is 2-5 weeks, instead of 1-4 before.
