Tesla intends to have up to 12 factories around the world. The location of the next one will be announced this year, Elon Musk said.
We know that Tesla does not intend to stop there, because its goal has not yet been achieved, and the world needs it. In order to ensure the continuous production of electric vehicles, which help secure environmental sustainability, the company needs a large number of factories. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk during the annual shareholder meeting, the manufacturer will need up to 12 factories to achieve the goal, and four of them are already in operation.
Tesla currently operates two large electric vehicle factories in the US, one in China, and one in Germany. The factories in Fremont and Shanghai are large manufacturing plants that provide the bulk of the production of vehicles now. The Austin and Berlin factories continue to ramp up production and should achieve more significant production results by the end of this year.
Increasing production is necessary for Tesla right now, so the manufacturer is not going to rest, but has begun planning. According to Musk, the company will announce a new location already in 2022, which is very exciting news. He did not reveal any hints about the location, but said that it would be selected on a competitive basis, as was the case with Giga Berlin and Giga Texas.
By the end of 2022, Tesla wants to achieve an annual production capacity of two million vehicles, which seems quite realistic given that after the Giga Shanghai upgrade is completed, the factory will have an installed capacity to produce 1 million vehicles. This puts Tesla in close proximity to selling as many vehicles as premium manufacturers BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which have been on the market for about 100 years.
