Tesla May Launch Its Own Car Rental Service in Texas

Tesla may intend to launch its own car rental service. The company was looking for an employee for the relevant position but later removed the ad. The Staff Program Manager at Tesla personally advertised the position on her LinkedIn account.

According to recent activity, Tesla is gearing up to launch its own car rental program in Texas. The description indicated that it should be “a small pilot in all Texas collision sites.”@SawyerMerritt/X noticed an ad posted by Staff Program Manager, Business Development at Tesla, Melissa Porche Blakely, on LinkedIn. According to the posting, the company is looking for a Program Manager of Business Development, whose job description prompted this idea. It is worth noting that the ad was later removed, but Sawyer managed to take a screenshot.

Tesla wrote that it was looking for “a highly motivated individual to support the company's growing Business Development operational needs. Applicants must be highly organized and confident in their ability to streamline processes and create standardized systems. The individual filling this role will be responsible for driving many cost and process optimization projects within the collision team.” This position is based in Austin, Texas.

In the description, the employee in this position, among other things, will be the Lead for the launch of the Tesla Rental Program in Texas. Its features include:

  • Support the team on launching a small pilot in all Texas collision sites
  • Document and communicate areas of opportunity and process improvements for the greater team
  • Work cross-functionally to help automate the process for a much larger launch
  • Lead Texas sites through a larger launch to a sustainable state with appropriate resources, training and processes in place.
  • Support the launch in any airports for the Tesla employee pilot

At the moment, it remains unclear when this program will be deployed and whether it will be deployed at all. Perhaps Tesla was just in a hurry with the announcement, or perhaps the company's plans have changed dramatically. It is also worth considering that under the program, the company could simply provide access to Tesla cars for those owners whose cars are in collision or service centers for repair. Also, do not underestimate the possibility that the company may intend to enter the car rental business altogether.
