Tesla Semi to Be Delivered this Year, Says Elon Musk

Starting with an idea six years ago, Tesla will soon start deliveries of a finished product that will change the heavy-duty transportation industry forever. Tesla Semi will be delivered to customers as early as this year, says Elon Musk.

In July 2016, Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote Master Plan, Part Deux, which outlined the manufacturer's next goals and steps to achieve them. As consumer vehicles were already developed, the company saw two other types of electric vehicles that were badly needed by the world: heavy-duty trucks and high passenger-density urban transport. Already at the time, Musk stated that both were in the early stages of development and Tesla Semi was unveiled in November 2017.

Almost five years have passed since then, and the company has done a great job to make the truck possible. Although the priority was given to expanding the production of consumer vehicles, which was more urgent than the start of production of the Class 8 truck, Tesla did not stop on the way to implementing the plan.

To date, Tesla Semi has been improved, a production site and specialists have appeared for it, charging infrastructure has been developed and installed in some places. In this regard, Musk announced that the first deliveries of the electric truck will occur later this year. It seemed to be a very exciting moment for him as he took to Twitter to share the news, in a follow-up to a tweet with a link to Master Plan, Part Deux.

The head of Tesla for many years has openly announced the plans of the company and ultimately, gradually achieves them. Although the deadlines are not always what we all expect, we should keep in mind that Tesla is doing something new that no one has ever done, disrupting all the industries in which it enters. Having chosen this path, it is never possible to know for sure how quickly it will be possible to achieve this or that, so we at least have to be patient.

While no announcements have been made about the first recipient of Tesla Semis, it is expected to be Pepsi Co. At least that is the name that has been around for a few years now, and its Modesto, California, facility already has Megachargers installed to charge Semi. The company should receive 15 electric trucks, but it is not known whether all of them will be received at once.
