Tesla Has Already Delivered 36 Semis to PepsiCo, with Remaining 64 to Deploy by 2023

Tesla will deliver PepsiCo all 100 Semi trucks that the company ordered by 2023, a company spokesman said. Today, 36 of them are already deployed and making PepsiCo's operations more sustainable.

PepsiCo expects delivery of all 100 Tesla Semis ordered by 2023, PepsiCo Vice President Mike O'Connell confirmed in an interview with Reuters. The company installed four 750-kilowatt Megachargers at both its Modesto and Sacramento locations, as it became known a few days ago. A $15.4 million California state grant and $40,000 federal subsidy per vehicle help offset part of the costs.

“It's a great starting point to electrify,” said O'Connell. “Like any early technology, the incentives help us build out the program,” he added, saying “there's lots of development” and infrastructure costs.

PepsiCo was the first company to order Tesla Semi in 2017 after they were introduced. The giant is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and making its operations more sustainable.

PepsiCo is currently deploying 36 electric trucks from Tesla, which were delivered on December 1 in Giga Nevada. Of these, 15 are used in Modesto and 21 in Sacramento. PepsiCo's new Semis can haul Frito-Lay food for about 425 miles, O'Connell said, but for heavier loads, like soda, trucks will make shorter trips of about 100 miles. The company has earmarked several delivery trucks to Walmart and grocery stores such as Kroger Co and Albertsons Cos Inc. ACI.N.

All 100 PepsiCo Semi trucks are 500-mile versions. As of now, Tesla has not announced when it will begin production of the 300-mile version. O'Connell said that once the manufacturer starts selling them, PepsiCo will definitely include them in its fleet. The company plans to deploy Semis in the central US and then on the East Coast.
