Tesla Powerwall owners in California, connected to Tesla VPP and actively participating in events, received a generous reward for sending energy to the grid in 2022. One such owner participated in 10 events that lasted more than 26 hours generating more than $570 for 300 kWh.

Tesla's California Virtual Power Plant (VPP) has grown throughout 2022. It is estimated to have over 5,700 connected households from PG&E and SoCal Edison customers combined. VPP connects households with Powerwall and solar panels or Solar Roof into a virtual battery that supports the power grid when needed.

Reddit user u/mahkus11, who is a participant in the California VPP, reported that in 2022, his system participated in 10 events in the state that lasted over 26 hours, delivering 297 kWh to the grid. In addition to bringing great help and support to the community, the system also made money. mahkus11 said he received $574 in compensation, according to an email from Tesla.

Tesla is committed to building the world's largest distributed battery that will keep California's power supply clean and reliable, and therefore continues to roll out its efforts to help the state. As part of the Tesla VPP, attendees receive $2 for each additional kWh that their Powerwall delivers during an event.
