SpaceX founder Elon Musk has donated to multiple school districts and non-profit organizations in Cameron County, Texas, the region where he established the Starbase Starship factory and launch site at Boca Chica Beach. The company recently donated to BiG Heroes, Inc. (Believe in God’s Heroes), a local faith-based nonprofit organization that provides education and employment opportunities to individuals with Autism in South Texas. BiG Heroes, Inc. is located in Brownsville at an approximate 30-minute drive from SpaceX's Starship launch site.
April is Autism Awareness Month which is dedicated to educating the public about the developmental condition and promoting inclusion. A BiG Heroes representative told TESMANIAN that SpaceX is one of the sponsors of their upcoming fundraising event. "We are hosting a 2nd Annual 5K run at Laguna Vista, Texas, on Saturday, April 23, 2022, to raise funds for our mission of helping young adults with disabilities after high school who seek employment and a purpose in life," they said, "SpaceX provided us with a great monetary sponsorship which we are grateful for! We hope to continue working together to make a difference in the local community." Other local sponsors include supermarket chain H-E-B and Texas Regional Bank.
The BiG Heroes Autism Fun Run/Walk will take place at Roloff Park in Laguna Vista from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM Central Time. To participate, register via the organization's website: www.bigherotx.org. All proceeds will benefit BiG Heroes, Inc. If you would like to support the organization but are unable to participate in person, find ways to support and donate at: bigherotx.org/donate.
