The Boring Company plans to dig networks of tunnels where electric vehicles can travel at high-speeds. The company is currently working on its first real-world, operational tunnel project in Las Vegas. The first set of underground roads are under construction at Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), the underground high-speed system is referred to as ‘Loop’. The Loop system will use Autonomous Electric Vehicles (AEV), these zero-emissions vehicles are modified Tesla cars that will transport passengers underground at up to 150 miles per hour. AEVs are made up of the Tesla Model 3 and a modified Tesla Model X that will be capable of transporting up to 16 passengers. “Tunnels under cities with self-driving electric cars will feel like warp drive,” said Elon Musk, founder of The Boring Company. “First operational tunnel under Vegas almost done. [...] Doubles as an underground nuclear shelter,” he added.

The LVCC project consists of two one-mile-long tunnels that are adjacent to each other, connecting the LVCC’s New Exhibit Hall (West Hall) building to the South and North/Central Hall. Walk time between those two locations is typically 15 minutes, the Loop system will enable rapid 90-second arrival between those two destinations aboard electric vehicles. The photos below show the LVCC construction progress at South Hall.

The Boring Company aims to complete the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop by the end of this year to initiate operations in January 2021. The first pair of Tesla vehicles were recently seen driving in the LVCC Loop system.

The Boring Company announced this week it is hiring, --"Do you like electrons? Do you like tunnels? Sounds like a match! Looking for the most talented electrical engineers in the world to help solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic. Both Las Vegas and Los Angeles positions available," the company wrote via Twitter. “The Boring Company is a group of individuals that share a passion to innovate within the tunneling industry to dramatically improve transportation and infrastructure development worldwide,” the job application reads. “We're looking for top talent ready to get their hands dirty to make a meaningful impact that will last for generations to come.” You can apply at: boringcompany.com/jobs
