The rapid growth in the value of Tesla shares, which continues in 2021, led to the fact that Elon Musk became the richest man in the world, with a fortune of more than $185 billion.
The opening price of TSLA shares on the trading session on Thursday was $777.63, and as of this writing, peaked at a new high of $796, making Musk the richest man in the world. Prior to that, the richest man in the world was Jeff Bezos, with a fortune of $184 billion.
Musk's growth in wealth over the past year has been the fastest rise to the top of the rich list in history. He started 2020 with about $27 billion in revenue. But Tesla's skyrocketing share price and salary package have boosted Musk's capital by $160 billion.
Nonetheless, growing personal wealth has never been a priority for Musk. The work of all his companies is primarily aimed at helping humanity. Whether it's the creation and popularization of electric vehicles, thanks to which the climate situation on Earth will improve, or the creation of reusable rockets that make flights to space more affordable, the drilling of tunnels that will help solve traffic problems, or the development of a chip that will deprive sick people of suffering, all this serves for the good of all mankind.
Surely, if Musk's goal was to get rich, people would not expect him to have chosen so many vastly different areas of development. Musk started his companies not to get rich, but because he felt he had to help humanity. The chances of success for Tesla and SpaceX were very low. However, he sacrificed himself and his personal life, which cannot be evaluated in monetary terms. That is why the fact that Musk became the richest person on Earth is just secondary, and we should judge him by the incredible successes that his company has achieved—and will—for humanity.
About half my money is intended to help problems on Earth & half to help establish a self-sustaining city on Mars to ensure continuation of life (of all species) in case Earth gets hit by a meteor like the dinosaurs or WW3 happens & we destroy ourselves
