The popularity of EVs continues to grow steadily. In September, 2,340 new electric vehicles entered the roads of Denmark, more than 30% of which were Tesla Model 3s. Model 3 became the best-selling EV in the country, which underlines the growing popularity of the California manufacturer's cars.
The number of September registered electric vehicles, 2,340, is a new record in one month; the previous record was 1,554 units. In September, over 22% of new registrations were plug-ins.
Last month Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling EV in many European markets and Denmark was no exception. During this period, 798 vehicles were registered in the country--about 200 units more than the nearest competitor. The second-placed Peugeot 208 sold 610 units, which is also a good result.
Nisan Qashqai registered 578, Opel Corsa, 550, and VW ID.3 sold 534 units, which brought them into 3rd, 4th and 5th places, respectively. Toyota Aygo (#6) sold 524 and Citroen C3 (#7) sold 502, which is also a good result and underlines that the interest amongst the models from 2nd to 7th place was almost evenly distributed.

“With a new record, it becomes clear that we are in the middle of a shift towards sustainable use of passenger cars in Denmark. The reason for the record is that there are more attractive green cars on the market and tax breaks keep battery cars competitive. It is important that politicians keep low taxes on green cars calm so that we can continue to accelerate the transition to green cars," says Mads Rørvig, CEO of De Danske Bilimportører.
