Elon Musk enters the Twitter HQ: “Let that sink in!” He has a lot of meetings at the Twitter HQ this week before the deal closes by Friday.

Elon Musk's deal to buy Twitter is almost closed. He received funding from banks and is ready to complete it by October 28, as ordered by the court at his request earlier. Twitter Chief Marketing Officer Leslie Berland told staff in an email Wednesday that Musk plans to visit Twitter HQ this week to meet with various employees and take a look at their work. In addition, the new owner will meet with the team on Friday.

The new owner of the platform flamboyantly arrived at Twitter HQ. As soon as the door opened, Musk walked in carrying a sink and exclaiming “Let that sink in!” He was in high spirits and laughing. A few hours earlier, he had updated his Twitter bio to “Chief Twit” and changed his location to “Twitter HQ.”

Earlier this week, Twitter staff prepared an open letter to Musk and company executives, although it would be more accurate to call it a “demand letter.” Literally, every paragraph began with the words “we demand.” Twitter, as a social network platform, has been at the center of several scandals, including ignoring the spread of child pornography on it. Responsibility for this lies with the leaders of the company and employees.

 

In the “demand letter” Twitter staff demand:

“Respect: We demand leadership to respect the platform and the workers who maintain it by committing to preserving the current headcount.

Safety: We demand that leadership does not discriminate against workers on the basis of their race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or political beliefs. We also demand safety for workers on visas, who will be forced to leave the country they work in if they are laid off.

Protection: We demand Elon Musk explicitly commit to preserve our benefits, those both listed in the merger agreement and not (e.g. remote work). We demand leadership to establish and ensure fair severance policies for all workers before and after any change in ownership.

Dignity: We demand transparent, prompt and thoughtful communication around our working conditions. We demand to be treated with dignity, and to not be treated as mere pawns in a game played by billionaires.”

Twitter staff unrest came after Musk announced plans to cut the number of employees. Obviously, the new owner does not intend to put up with the current state of the platform and will reorganize it in accordance with his vision. As an employer, he will have every right to independently decide which employees are useful for the further development of the company, and which are not needed or will interfere. Musk has previously said that he will not fire those employees who work responsibly and benefit the company, so all employees have an equal chance to keep their jobs.
