Elon Musk may appoint a successor to the post of CEO of Twitter at the end of the year. This will only be done after he is satisfied that the platform is in a “financially healthy place and that the product roadmap is clearly laid out.”

Elon Musk spoke at the World Government Summit (WGS) 2023 in Dubai. Among other things, he said that he might be able to appoint his successor to the post of CEO of Twitter by the end of the year. However, it depends on several factors as he is very concerned about the social media platform becoming stable by then. In particular, it is about achieving financial well-being and being sure the product roadmap is clearly laid out.

“I think I need to stabilize the organization and just make sure it’s in a financially healthy place and that the product roadmap is clearly laid out,” Musk said. “I’m guessing probably towards the end of this year should be good timing to find someone else to run the company because I think it should be in a stable position around the end of this year,” he added.

Musk became the CEO of Twitter immediately after the acquisition, as only he had a clear idea of what he wanted to achieve for the platform. It has always been his ambition to make Twitter a free speech platform where different points of view can be expressed and discussed. He aims to turn previously narrowly focused Twitter into a platform for everything, which will become something like WeChat in China. In addition, his goal was to bring the company out of a critical financial situation, because Twitter was on the way to bankruptcy, which at the moment does not pose such a big threat as it has in October.

In December, Musk posted a poll on Twitter asking people if he should step down as head of Twitter. Most of the 17.5 million votes said yes. He promised to do this as soon as he finds a person who can take this position.
