Elon Musk May Be Partnering with Lennar to Build 'Project Awesome', Homes for His Company's Employees

Elon Musk may be partnering with Lennar to build a residential area for employees of his companies. It is called “Project Awesome” and will consist of 110 homes in Bastrop County.

One of the largest construction companies in the state appears to have teamed up with Elon Musk to build housing in Bastrop County for employees of his companies. Lennar Corp. is working with The Boring Company to build a subdivision of 110 homes on FM 1209 next to FM 969, according to Bastrop County Commissioner Mel Hamner, whose precinct includes the site, according to the Austin Business Journal. Hamner revealed the connection during a Jan. 23 commissioners court meeting, while discussing the proposed subdivision, codenamed “Project Amazing.”

“The Boring Company is working with Lennar to build this housing subdivision to support the workers there,” Hamner said during the meeting.

There is almost no information about this project, except that it is the construction of residential buildings on the territory of companies that are associated with Musk. These organizations own about 450 acres along FM 1209 in Bastrop County, according to an analysis of public records by the Austin Business Journal. The Boring Co. and Space Technologies Exploration Corp. (SpaceX) facilities are located there. Residential buildings will be located near them.

At the end of 2022, ABJ first reported about “Project Amazing.” It has been approved for development, according to documents from a Sept. 12 Bastrop County commissioners meeting, and returned to the court two weeks ago to approve a new layout. The houses will be adjacent to where facilities for Boring Co. and SpaceX are being built. The documents show that the area will include four street names: Cutterhead Xing, Porpoise Place, Boring Boulevard, and Waterjet Way.

In recent years, Musk's companies have created thousands of jobs in the Austin area. This, in turn, has led to an increased need for more housing for employees who flock here from all over the country. Now Musk is not only boosting the city's and the state's economy, giving thousands of jobs, but also creating a home for employees of his companies.
