Elon Musk received an invitation to build a Tesla factory in Türkiye. The country's President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has become the latest leader to lobby the company to set up production in his country.

On Monday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at New York's Turkish House. Both have already held a series of meetings in Türkiye and during international forums previously. Erdogan was in New York to attend the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly, where he is due to speak on Tuesday.

According to the Türkiye President's office, he lobbied Tesla to locate a car production facility in the country. “President Erdogan called on Tesla to establish its seventh factory in Türkiye,”the Turkish leader's office said.

Türkiye's state-run Anadolu news agency reported that Musk told Erdogan that his country is “among the most important candidates” for the new factory.

Erdogan's lobbying efforts follow those of French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Indonesian political leaders and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the moment, Tesla is one of the most desirable companies in the world, because, despite everything, it continues to create thousands of jobs and fill the budgets of the countries where it has production facilities.

Tesla currently has six factories. Two of them are located outside the United States: one in Shanghai, China, and the second, near Berlin, Germany. The company will also soon begin construction of a factory in Mexico. After the meeting with Modi, Musk said the company has preliminary plans to build a factory in India.

“I am confident that Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible. It’s quite likely that there will be a significant investment relationship with India in the future” Musk said, without specifying a timeline.
