The delegation from Indonesia was warmly welcomed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at Giga Texas. During the conversation, the parties discussed the possibility of cooperation regarding the supply and processing of nickel, based on good and sustainable ESG, as a raw material for the production of battery cells.
An Indonesian entrepreneur, CEO of Bakrie & Brothers, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, shared on Instagram that he and several others visited the US and met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The meeting was held with the participation of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of Indonesia Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan with the Marinvest team, Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and some other business friends. The meeting was held at the new Tesla factory in the USA, Giga Texas, which is the most advanced in the country.
According to Bakrie, the purpose of the meeting was to convince Tesla to explore cooperation with Indonesia regarding the supply and processing of nickel, based on good and sustainable ESG (Environment, Social Responsibility and Governance) as a raw material for the production of battery cells. Nickel is a key component in battery production and securing its supply will enable a strong ramp-up of 4680 battery cells.
The delegation received a rare tour of Giga Texas, where they visited both the automobile facility and the battery facility. Everyone was very impressed with what they saw, highlighting the “incredibly efficient and tidy organization of the supply chain at the Tesla factory!”
Ensuring the supply of raw materials critical to the production of batteries will provide Tesla with the opportunity to significantly scale the production of battery cells. To date, the manufacturer has its facility in Fremont and is also preparing for production at Giga Texas. According to unofficial information, Giga Berlin will start production of 4680 battery cells starting this autumn.
