Today is the deadline for reviewing the project of a new development plan for Tesla's factory in Germany, so a local civic initiative has proposed a community referendum. However, this is not included in the list of mandatory procedures for the approval of the Giga Berlin plans.

Despite the fact that the approval of the construction of Giga Berin has already passed several important stages and received the approval of both politicians and many local citizens, a small group of people continues to express their dissatisfaction with the appearance of a factory in the region. The civil initiative in Grünheide, which does not agree with the opinion of politicians and relevant organizations, proposed a community referendum on the plans of the Tesla factory. However, this is not a mandatory procedure and there is no legal basis for it. Mayor Arne Cristiani said about the referendum:

"This is not part of the development plan procedure."

The draft revised development plan for the industrial zone describes plans to expand transport links. These include a new junction with Autobahn 10, a new state road as the junction between the A10 motorway and state road 23, industrial rail systems, and parking and driving areas. It is also about the requirements for nature that must be observed.

From October 2nd, the documents were available in Grünheide for four weeks. The main committee is to discuss the objections on November 26, and on December 15, the city council can pass a resolution, which is necessary for the approval of the project. If there are no delays and unforeseen difficulties, then Tesla can receive its final building permit by the end of 2020. For now, Tesla is building with several prior approvals for specific phases of construction.
