Hawaiian Airlines Provides Free SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi To Passengers

In an exciting development for air travelers, Hawaiian Airlines announced it started providing complimentary industry-leading SpaceX Starlink satellite internet connectivity to all guests onboard flights between Hawaiʻi and the continental U.S., Asia, and Oceania. The airline aims to enhance the in-flight experience by offering fast and seamless Wi-Fi access, becoming the first major carrier to utilize SpaceX's innovative product.

The collaboration follows Hawaiian Airlines' previous announcement in 2022 that it would equip its Airbus A330 and A321neo aircraft, as well as its upcoming fleet of Boeing 787-9s, with Starlink terminals to access the satellite constellation during transpacific flights. This decision was motivated by the airline's desire to bridge the gap in Wi-Fi connectivity over the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Previously, Hawaiian Airlines did not provide any Wi-Fi service during flights, citing the lack of a reliable network that adequately serves the region above the Pacific Ocean.

Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Peter Ingram expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming upgrade, stating, "When we launch with Starlink we will have the best connectivity experience available in the air,” said Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Peter Ingram. “We waited until technology caught up with our high standards for guest experience, but it will be worth the wait. Our guests can look forward to fast, seamless and free Wi-Fi to complement our award-winning onboard Hawaiian hospitality."

The airline plans to introduce free Wi-Fi on all flights, excluding neighbor island travel, starting in early 2024. By implementing Starlink, Hawaiian Airlines aims to revolutionize the in-flight Wi-Fi experience, providing passengers with convenient and reliable connectivity. Avi Mannis, the Chief Marketing Officer of Hawaiian Airlines, emphasized the significance of this move, saying,"It’s Starlink, which means that on all of our long-haul fleet, eventually, our guests will have access to fast, totally free Wi-Fi that you can connect to with a click of a button. So, it’s going to be very different, I think, than what people were used to experiencing in terms of in-flight Wi-Fi," they stated in a press release.

With Hawaiian Airlines taking the lead in providing free Starlink Wi-Fi, travelers can anticipate an elevated in-flight experience, combining top-notch connectivity and world-class hospitality. As the partnership takes off, it signals a new era of enhanced connectivity in the skies for Hawaiian Airlines passengers.
