Cryptocurrencies are increasingly penetrating our daily life, demonstrating a number of advantages over fiat money. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, a longtime Bitcoin supporter, recently called on the audience to select the next U.S. President who supports Bitcoin.
During the Bitmain Digital Mining conference on September 9, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez concluded his speech by encouraging the audience to “Go out there and elect the next President of the United States to be a pro-Bitcoin president,” according to Bitcoin Magazine. During his talk, he also talked about years of work integrating Bitcoin into the Miami “way of life.” “The city of Miami has been dubbed by many as the Bitcoin capital of the world,” he said.
Suarez made Miami the second government in the world and the first in North America to post the Satoshi White Paper on its government website. The mayor is actively working to bring Bitcoin to the city's balance sheet. With his assistance, Miami also launched its cryptocurrency MiamiCoin and became the first city with its own digital money. As planned by the authorities, it will increase the city's revenues and expand the local economy, since 30% of all mined cryptocurrency will go to the local budget.
Suarez's goal is to make Miami America's most innovative city, thanks to the introduction of disruptive technologies like Bitcoin. Because Bitcoin is uncontrollable, governments often avoid it, but Suarez seeks to go the other way. “Governments are going to lose control of Bitcoin,” Suarez told the audience. “Control is not necessarily a bad thing for governments to lose,” he explained.
Suarez outlined three challenges for the attendees of the conference to ensure a pro-Bitcoin regulatory future. The first challenge was: “Learn ways to simplify what is going on and explain it to a layperson.” The second challenge was: "Learn how to message." And the third challenge was: "Go out there and elect the next President of the United States to be a pro-Bitcoin president."
