In a significant move towards bridging the digital divide in Paraguay, the National Commission of Telecommunications (Conatel) has granted a license to SpaceX Starlink to provide satellite internet services across the country. This decision aligns with the government's commitment to connect every region, even the most remote areas to the internet.
Paraguay President Santiago Peña expressed his enthusiasm for this pivotal development –"Welcome Starlink from Elon Musk to Paraguay . Connecting our entire territory to the digital world is a fundamental step to achieve our government goals," he wrote via X in Spanish on October 8. "Internet connectivity is more than technology, it is also inclusion and opportunities to improve the quality of life of all Paraguayans no matter where they are."

Gustavo Villate, the Minister of Technologies of the Information and Communication, celebrated this momentous milestone. He stated, "This achievement will allow Paraguay to connect to high-quality internet throughout the country, reducing the digital divide, and ensuring that everyone has the same opportunities and benefits in education, health, security, and economic development."
The SpaceX Starlink network comprises over 5,000 satellites in Low Earth Orbit. The Starlink user antennas are compact and user-friendly, making them an ideal solution to extend internet access to remote areas, such as the Paraguayan Chaco, where connectivity is limited and completely nonexistent in some communities.
The availability of satellite internet broadband in Paraguay is poised to be a valuable tool for boosting economic growth, attracting investments, and creating jobs throughout the country. This licensing agreement represents a significant step towards a more connected Paraguay and aligns the nation with the digital age. With the support of Conatel, and the government's dedication to this initiative, it is anticipated that this endeavor will positively transform the lives of people across Paraguay, paving the way for a more connected and inclusive future.
