Placerville Police Department in California has added a Model 3 Tesla to its fleet. The purchase of the environmentally friendly vehicle was funded by El Dorado County Air Quality Management.
In the fall of 2020, the Placerville Police Department applied for an El Dorado County Air Quality Management District (EDCAQMD), AB 2766 Subvention Fund Program grant which provides a funding source to cities and counties to develop clean transportation programs and reduce vehicle emissions. On March 1, 2021, the grant application was approved by the organization and the police department received a funding agreement from EDCAQMD for a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus. The city has requested the full amount available under the program of $36,800. The full cost of the electric car cost the city $40,990. At this point, the Tesla has already been outfitted with emergency equipment but will remain unmarked, for administrative use.

The Placerville Police Department is delighted with this purchase as the Model 3 is a zero-emission vehicle. In addition, the car saves significant cost on charging and maintenance compared to gasoline cars. The Model 3 will replace the outdated and unreliable 2005 Jeep Liberty.
