Police Need Tesla Model Y’s Help in Homicide Investigation

The police need the help of a Tesla Model Y in a homicide investigation. It is reported that the car could have filmed a tragic event, and therefore could help in the capture of the killers.

The tragic events that took place on August 21 forced the Oakland Police to seek help from the owner of a Tesla car. Prominent Asian American dentist Lili Xu was murdered in the afternoon in what her friends speculate may have been a racially motivated act, according to abc7news. After her partner Nelson Chia parked the car, an old white Lexus sedan pulled up next to it. One of the perpetrators hopped out of the car, purposefully ran to the side of the car from which Lili was getting out, and shot twice in her back. After that, he jumped into the Lexus, which sped away from the crime scene. The woman died from her injuries in the hospital.

The murder was caught on a street surveillance camera, but police are looking for help to get better video or witness statements. The Oakland Police Department reported the incident on Facebook, writing that they needed help from a Tesla Model Y, which was traveling on 5th Avenue, towards I880 at the time of the crime, as shared by the Tesla East Bay Club |Fremont|/Twitter (via Teslarati).

This is not the first time Tesla cars have become critical to solving crimes. The video footage that Tesla cars record has helped solve car vandalism crimes in the past. However, now this important function of Tesla is also being used in solving other crimes.

Last week it became known that the police in Munich, Germany, asked the owner of a Tesla for help. The criminals, who robbed an apartment, while fleeing were filmed by the cameras of a Tesla car, which was parked nearby. While details have not been released as the investigation continues, the police department has confirmed they have received video footage from the vehicle.
