Tesla Battery Job Listing May Hint at New 4680 Battery Cell Factory in Raleigh North Carolina

It seems that Tesla is planning to create a production line for Tesla Energy Batteries in North Carolina, USA, as hinted at by posting a related position on the company's website. Manufacturing Project Engineer, Cell Production should help the company design, install, and customize battery manufacturing equipment.

This is not the first time we're hearing of North Carolina in connection with Tesla. In May 2020, the state fought to be selected as the location of the company's new Gigafactory. North Carolina proclaimed its support for Tesla with a note written across the sky. An airplane soared above what appeared to be a Tesla-run building flying a banner with the note: "Tesla Come To NC. We Want You @GRMEGASITE." Thus, we can conclude that the state is friendly to Tesla, and especially to the company locating its production facilities there.

Also, after announcing 4,680 new cells, Tesla signed a five-year deal for the supply of high-purity lithium with Piedmont Lithium. The initial agreement implies that Piedmont will supply about a third of its planned spodumene concentrate production from its North Carolina fields. Both companies have the option to extend the deal.

A new part of this equation was the opening of the position of Manufacturing Project Engineer, Cell Production in North Carolina. The job description indicates that Tesla is looking for a specialist to contribute to the manufacturing of Tesla Energy Batteries equipment and processes.

Tesla emphasizes that the battery is one of the most sophisticated components designed and manufactured by the company. Therefore, it is very important to develop and set up manufacturing facilities that will help Tesla produce advanced batteries.

Tesla currently manufactures its batteries for their vehicles and for the Energy business at a joint venture with Panasonic in Nevada. Panasonic will continue to produce batteries for Tesla as the company aims to significantly increase vehicle production. However, in parallel with this, Tesla will also build its own facilities for the production of batteries.

At Battery Day, Drew Baglino and Elon Musk highlighted the importance of exactly how a battery factory should be built. Considering the new technologies that the company plans to apply, the area of ​​the factories will be significantly reduced.

The fact that Tesla is now looking for a specialist to design, install, and customize a production line for Energy Batteries in North Carolina may also hint that a full-fledged factory may appear there, where the company will also produce its new 4680 cells.
