Tesla Model 3 is an incredibly popular model and its appeal continues to grow. As Tesla deliveries continue to ramp up in 3Q 2020, August numbers show significant interest in the model around the world. It looks like the Tesla Model 3 has charmed the Dutch again and has become the top-selling plug-in for August in the Netherlands.

Last month, the Dutch car market fell to -22% y/y, but the plug-in category continues to grow rapidly. So in August, 5,680 plug-in models were sold, which shows an increase of 75%, as a result of which their share was 21%, according to EV-Sales.

Last month, there was a close race in the Netherlands between the Tesla Model 3 and the Kia Niro EV. However, according to the results, the Model 3 took the August trophy and was ranked 6th in the overall sales rankings. Tesla sold 609 Model 3s, while the Kia sold 599 Niro EVs. SAIC MG ZS EV sold 498 units, Renault Zoe - 290, VW e-Golf - 293, taking 3rd, 4th and 5th places, respectively.

Looking at the overall EV rankings for 2020, the Tesla Model 3 has cut the distance to the leader, Kia Niro EV, so there is reason to expect the sports sedan to return to the top spot in September thanks to an expected surge in sales by the end of the quarter.
