Tesla China exported 8,210 Giga Shanghai-made Model Y units in July, some of which were shipped to Europe. The first cars were seen in the Netherlands, presumably for showrooms.

Giga Shanghai has become Tesla's export hub and produces cars not only for China but also for neighboring countries, as well as Australia and Europe. Production of Model Y began at the factory in early 2021, initially delivering these units to Chinese customers. Giga Shanghai recently started exporting the compact SUV to South Korea and has now sent a huge shipment of cars to Europe.

European Model Y order holders were expecting to receive their cars starting in mid-2021. However, delays in obtaining the final building permit for Giga Berlin prevented this from happening. Although Tesla expects to start production at its European factory as early as October, the company is keen to fulfill its commitments to customers.

Tesla China announced that it achieved 385% export growth in July and shipped 8,210 Giga Shanghai-made Model Y units. Some of them will probably go to South Korea, and possibly Hong Kong, since it debuted there in July. However, the bulk of the vehicles have been shipped to Europe, where thousands of customers are awaiting delivery.

Tesla launched an online order configurator for the compact SUV in early July, and the first deliveries are expected in August 2021. By the end of July, the first Model Ys appeared in some showrooms in the Netherlands. Now residents of the Netherlands report that they saw trailers carrying Model 3s and several Model Ys. It is noteworthy that Tesla tried diligently to divert people's attention and wrote on the side of the crossover SUVs, “Not Model Y.” Of course, this is a joke in the style of any of Elon Musk's companies. These vehicles are expected to be housed in Tesla's showrooms.

According to data from the Tesla ship tracker @mortenlund89/Twitter, three ships are currently heading from China to Europe: Glovis Summit, Glovis Supreme, and Helios Ray. Helios Ray and Glovis Supreme are due to arrive at the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium on August 15. The Glovis Summit will come a little later. Thus, the first customers will start receiving their Model Y as early as August.
