Tesla FSD Beta is becoming more and more advanced and provides a level of safety higher than a human driver. The test software is now available to anyone in North America who requests it.
After painstakingly working on FSD Beta for two years, Tesla has reached the point where the software can provide greater safety than a human driver. During the Q3 2022 Earnings Call, Elon Musk said that Tesla expects FSD Beta to be released in North America as early as Q4 2022 and now the company is delivering on that promise. As the head of the manufacturer explained, the move was made possible because the safety that Tesla sees when the car is in FSD is actually significantly better than the safety they see when the car is only driven by a human pilot. This is what became the key threshold for moving to a wide beta version.
“So, this quarter, we expect to go to a wide release of full self-driving Beta in North America. So, anyone who has ordered a full self-driving Beta -- full self-driving, will have access to the FSD Beta program this year, probably about a month from now. So -- and then obviously, any new -- anyone who buys a car and purchases a full self-driving option, will immediately have that available to them.”
Early Thursday morning, Musk announced that FSD Beta is now available to anyone in North America who requests it from the in-car screen. Obviously, this is only available for those vehicles where the FSD package is purchased.

Congrats to Tesla Autopilot/AI team on achieving a major milestone!
Tesla began rolling out FSD Beta in October 2020 with a limited number of testers who actively tested the new software and helped take it to the next level, enabling a wider rollout in 2021 with version 9.0. Since that time, as FSD Beta has improved, Tesla has continued to expand the number of testers, while reducing the requirements for drivers. Now, any Tesla owner in North America, with a purchased FSD package, will receive the software upon request and, together with all other participants, will help it improve.
