Tesla's factory near Berlin, Germany seems to be making even more progress with a battery production project there. In addition to the recent approval to prepare for the construction of a battery factory in Brandenburg and rumors in the industry regarding a new logistics building (for which construction has already begun in the Giga Berlin area), the Minister of the Environment confirmed that Tesla is exploring the possibility of starting battery cell production in a new building, which is actively being built as a warehouse.
In late December 2020, Tesla filed a construction application with the Oder-Spree Construction Authority to build another large facility on an initial 300 hectares. The statement indicated that the premises would be temporarily used for logistic purposes. In mid-January, information appeared that later Tesla wanted to re-equip this building and place the production of battery cells there.
The building's dimensions indicate that it should be more than just a warehouse. The documents indicate that its area will be almost 22,000 square meters. Tesla's battery project near Berlin is part of a European battery subsidy and is also supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics.
This week, in a parliamentary committee, Brandenburg Environment Minister Axel Vogel gave some insight into the rumors that had been circulating earlier. He said the relevant authorities had informed that Tesla had studied the possibility of setting up battery production in the logistics hall. The minister stressed that at the moment, it looks more like a simple study of the possibilities and a special application for the construction and operation of a plant for the production of batteries there, which the company has not yet submitted.

In the meantime, Tesla has begun construction of the building, which at first might just be a warehouse, and then may later be converted into a battery factory. At the end of February, heavy equipment was noticed on the site where the warehouse will be located, and the excavation of a foundation pit began.
