Tesla began exporting made-in-China Model 3s to Europe in late October. 7,000 electric vehicles produced at Giga Shanghai will be sold in more than 10 European countries, including Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and France. For now, all indications point to the factory continuing to manufacture and deliver the China-made Model 3 Standard Range+ to the European market.
@esprit_tesla/Twitter noticed that the Tesla configurator in France shows the weight of the Model 3 Standard Range + there is the same as the weight indicated on the configurator in China. Tesmanian checked the configurator for a number of European countries and found that the weight of the vehicle in all countries except the UK was the same as for the Chinese market.
According to the configurator, the made-in-China Model 3 Standard Range +, which comes with LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, weighs 1745 kg. This indicates that the Model 3 SR+ currently available for order in Europe will be manufactured at Giga Shanghai.
Meanwhile, the production of right-hand drive vehicles for the UK, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, etc., will currently be delegated to the Fremont factory, as the configurator shows the same weight as previously indicated.
It is worth noting, the continued production and delivery of Model 3 SR+ to the European market by Giga Shanghai will likely have a positive impact on Tesla's Q4 2020 financial results and beyond given the higher profit margin of these units.
