Tesla Giga Shanghai's domestic sales and exports increased significantly compared to a year earlier. Sales in China grew by 271%, providing a 7.46% BEV market share. Exports grew 66% YoY.
According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla China sold a total of 64,285 vehicles manufactured by Giga Shanghai in July. This number includes cars sold domestically and exported abroad. This reflects a 127.8% increase from 28,217 vehicles sold last year. Including exports and imports, Model 3 sales in July were 20,324 and Model Y sales were 43,961.
On Tuesday, the CPCA released more specific figures showing the number of vehicles sold domestically and exported. According to them, Tesla delivered 31,423 vehicles to China in July. This is 271.39% more than last year. However, this is 57.66% less than the 74,212 vehicles in June. It is worth noting that sales in June are always focused on the domestic market, while in the next month and a half, they are more focused on exports.
Giga Shanghai exported 32,862 vehicles in July. This is 66.34% more than in the same month last year. It is also up 68.80% from June, underscoring Tesla's priority in domestic deliveries during the last month of the quarter.
New energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales in China totaled 641,000 units in July, according to the CPCA. These include 421,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 220,000 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Tesla's share of the Chinese NEV market was 4.9% in July, up from 1.74% a year earlier. In the electric vehicle market, Tesla's share in July was 7.46%, up from 2.34% a year before.
