Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai's Model 3 production surpassed 4,000 per week now that there are two shifts. Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory has significantly contributed to the company's Q2 2020 results yet again, and as the electric car maker enters the third quarter, the China-based vehicle manufacturing plant seems ready to crush production and sales even more.

In May, Tesla China's Global VP Grace Tao forecasted that Giga Shanghai would reach a production rate of 4,000 per week by the end of June. It seems that Tesla China already surpassed that goal in mid-June and entered July with a production rate exceeding 4,000 vehicles per week.

Sources familiar with the matter told Tesmanian that Giga Shanghai's production rate quickly ramped after it solved its battery bottleneck issue. Whether the solution to its battery supply constraint had anything to do with CATL and Tesla's partnership remains unclear.

However, Tesla has strengthened its partnerships with Panasonic and LG Chem over the past couple of weeks. On June 10, Tesla and Panasonic entered in a 2020 pricing agreement for the Japanese battery supplier's lithium-ion battery cells, effectively extending their partnership.

In July, LG Chem prepared to make battery cells for Tesla in one of its plants in South Korea. Tesla also secured cobalt supply for both Gigafactory Shanghai and Gigafactory Berlin's batteries with Glencore last month.

Tesla's latest moves in relation to battery production depict the company's goal to secure its battery supply for Giga Shanghai. At the same time, Tesla China is working hard to increase the EV plant's production rate, as evidenced by its two work shifts at the facility. Local sources predict that Giga Shanghai could more than double its current production rate by the end of 2020.

Based on Wuwa Vision's latest video, the Model Y factory's roofing is practically finished and the exterior wall panels are currently being installed. Sources close to the matter told Tesmanian that limited MIC Model Y production could start before the end of the year.
