Tesla Giga Texas’ ”ecological paradise” will soon become a reality thanks to the new site extension. A well-developed recreational boardwalk leading to downtown Austin is a long-term goal and has been approved by the City.

In addition to the stunning design that unites all workshops under one roof, and the latest technology for the production of cars including the huge Cybertruck, some of the near-factory grounds will be open to the public. According to the idea, an ecological paradise should be located on the territory of the factory. “It’s right on the Colorado River, so there’s actually going to be a boardwalk where there’ll be a hiking and biking trail. It’s going to basically be an ecological paradise, birds in the trees, butterfly, fish in the stream, and they will be open to the public as well. So, not closed and only for Tesla,” said Elon Musk during the Q2 2020 Earnings Call.

Two weeks ago, it became known that Tesla has revised its application for Giga Texas and added 12 acres to the site boundaries. So the manufacturer added 522,720 feet of space to the south of the factory, near the Colorado River. Musk confirmed that the expansion will be used for gentrification to accommodate hiking and biking areas. According to the plan, there will be a landscaped boardwalk that will connect Giga Texas and downtown Austin. The zone will be open to the public, which means that citizens will be able to walk, ride bicycles and even kayaks there, obviously along the river, next to the boardwalk.

Teslarati has now received confirmation that the city of Austin approved Tesla's expansion project on September 28. The application has passed all relevant processes including “a Mapping Review, Addressing Review, Environmental Assessment, and Drainage Plan.” This means the manufacturer can start implementing plans at any time. It is worth bearing in mind that this may only start after some time, because at the moment, Tesla should focus on ramping up production.
