Tesla Giga Texas has been named as the manufacturing project of the year in Texas, underpinning the state's receipt of the Gold Shovel Award from Area Development magazine for leadership among the most populous states in attracting valuable business investment in 2020. The factory will create thousands of manufacturing jobs and tens of thousands in supply chains.

Tesla's arrival to an area has a magical effect, as it can raise the economy of any region. The creation of thousands of jobs with decent wages, the attraction of supplier companies that also need a lot of local employees, the infusion of money in the local budget from the operation of the facility—all of this has an extremely positive impact on development. With the construction and commissioning of Giga Texas, Tesla has been named the State's 2020 Manufacturing Project of the Year.

The construction of the factory has already created thousands of jobs in the state. Although many of them will move to other construction projects after commissioning, Giga Texas itself will create 5,000 permanent jobs that could grow to even more in the future. In addition, as soon as the factory starts production, suppliers will begin to locate their offices, warehouses, and production facilities near it. This, in turn, will create thousands more jobs in the state, which significantly sets Tesla apart from other businesses that were located in Texas in 2020.

Tesla's investment also helped win Texas its ninth Gold Shovel Award from Area Development magazine for leadership among the most populous states in attracting valuable business investment in 2020. The state continues to attract businesses with favorable terms, which fosters a profitable relationship. This leads to the creation of a significant number of investments and new jobs in communities across the state.

"It’s no surprise that Texas continues to lead the nation in job creation and economic expansion," said Governor Abbott.

“The Lone Star State offers innovative businesses the freedom to flourish with our pro-growth economic policies, a predictable regulatory environment, and our young, growing, and diverse workforce.

"I thank Area Development Magazine for their recognition, and I look forward to welcoming even more new business investments and job creation as we unleash the full might of the Texas economy."

Other significant job-creating investments in diverse industries across Texas cited by Area Development included:
  • Amazon in Waco, Oak Cliff, and Pflugerville creating 3,500 jobs
  • Peloton in Plano creating 1,600 jobs
  • FedEx in Dallas creating 1,200 jobs
  • Navistar International Corp. in San Antonio creating 600 jobs
  • Max Midstream in Point Comfort creating 474 jobs
  • Freshpet Inc. in Ennis creating 427 jobs, and
  • Gulf Coast Ammonia LLC in Texas City creating 40 jobs.
