Tesla Giga Texas has begun expanding its paint shop, documents show. The new equipment has already arrived at the site and will be installed in the near future. This may hint that the factory will start producing Model Y in new colors after the launch of the line.

Tesla Giga Texas continues to increase production. Tesla observer and drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer also noticed activity to improve current capacities. This time, he noticed that the factory had received boxes of equipment for the paint shop. The footage from the video shows five huge boxes and a few smaller ones that are directly outside the paint shop and seem to be preparing to be lifted into the room.

Also, Joe found additional information on the website of the city of Austin, which confirmed his guess. He found a document filed by Tesla on October 12, 2022, and approval was received on October 17, 2022. Its expiration date is April 15, 2023. The description of the document states: “Paint shop tool connections, 20 1.5” branch lines to: E Coat, Top Coat, Flash, ASU6, & ASU7. Permit for Wenker Natural gas hookups.” This suggests that Tesla plans to install a new paint line in the factory.

On the one hand, this hints that Tesla is expanding its paint shop in preparation for an increase in production. Indeed, Giga Texas is expected to reach a production capacity of 2,000 Model Ys per week soon. On the other hand, this may also hint that Tesla plans to start producing cars in new colors. At the moment, it is known that Tesla plans to release cars in Deep Crimson, Mercury Silver Metallic, and Abyss Blue Multicoat and new, revolutionary equipment will be used for this.
